The Heart That Holds: A Journey of Trauma, Surrender, and Buddhist Wisdom

with Dr Anna Lee

facilitated by Genevieve David

As the therapist changes, the field shifts — and healing can begin.

Join us for a case presentation that traces the parallel journey of a therapist and a patient caught in an impasse, both longing for a new way to heal. Originally trained in traditional psychodynamic theory, Dr Lee found herself meeting the limits of her familiar frame, while working with a client whose dissociation, terror, and repetitive trauma responses resisted insight-based interventions. During this time, she was concurrently undertaking the AABCAP 2-Year Training, a process that began to shift her clinical presence and alter the therapeutic field.

Dr Anna Lee is a psychiatrist and psychodynamic psychotherapist, and a 2024 graduate of the AABCAP 2-year Training in Buddhism and Psychotherapy. She works in a private practice that is part of Drummoyne Psychotherapy Centre, as a clinician, psychiatrist and supervisor and has served as the Medical Director of Sydney Local Health District-Youth Mental Health for over 20 years. More recently she trained in Psychedelic-assisted therapy and has an interest in its interconnection with Buddhism.
